She was recently awarded the 2018 Spanish National Prize for Sociology and Political Science. She is the first woman to receive the prize, just as she was the first woman in Spain to hold a Chair in Sociology and the first sociologist to receive the prestigious Pascual Madoz National Research Prize for the Social Sciences (2002). She holds a Doctorate in Political Science and a Degree in Political Science and Economics (Politics Section) and is an expert in the analysis of unpaid work and how it relates to the social and economic structure.
She is the founder of the University Institute of Women Studies (IUEM) at the UAM, has presided over the Spanish Sociology Federation and is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Sociological Association.

Isabel Pardo de Vera

Born in Lugo in 1975, she has a degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de A Coruña. After working in the private sector in engineering and consultancy of railway and road infrastructure projects, she joined Adif (a Spanish state-owned railway infrastructure manager) in 2007 by means of a Public Job Posting.
Until 2015 she undertook successive positions of Site Management, Head of Infrastructure and Area Manager. At the end of that year she became Manager of Mobility and Infrastructure at the County Council of Pontevedra.
In June 2016 she joined the railway entity once again as General Manager of Adif Operation and Construction and General Manager of Adif High Speed, roles which she held until being named as chairwomen of both entities in June

This Indian-born designer wants to restore human values in the world of fashion and make individuals recover their identity as creators. From her company, Porous City Network, this Thai landscape architect works on the construction of public green spaces in order to stand up to climate change, especially in her birth city, Bangkok.
She is a consultant for the Redevelopment Bangkok 250 project and was the co-founder of Koungkuey Design Initiative (KDI), an international association that works with communities to design and rebuild public spaces by means of a participative process. She has worked in stand-out projects such as the 2015 Thailand Pavilion in Milan, the creation of an urban ecological park in the heart of Bangkok and on a series of innovative public landscape designs in her city. In all of her work she shows her passion for solving urban ecological problems through architectural landscape design. -
She has published short stories, novels, essays and an autobiography, and has been an editor, a literature critic, translator and guest lecturer in several universities in the United States.

As an economist, she has devoted more than 30 years to market intelligence, both professionally in the PRM company and in the teaching sector, as well as in many master’s programmes taught by different schools.
She joined the PRM team as an intern, and from 2008 to 2013 she held the position of partner-CEO. When she left the management of PRM, she took a sabbatical and decided to carry out a pioneering research project: “Women today: how they are, what they believe and how they feel”, a study she funded and that she could undertake thanks to a pro bono collaboration from the PRM team. -

Having suffered from dyslexia as a child, Luz Rello took an interest in linguistics and IT and developed a technology that enables its early detection. She founded Change Dyslexia; a social project that uses digital tools to deal with the social challenge of dyslexia and put an end to the school drop-outs that it leads to.
Her work has been internationally recognised and she has received significant acknowledgements, such as the European Young Researchers’ Award 2013 (she was the first Spanish woman to receive this); the MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Award (Spain); the New Researcher Award granted by the International Dyslexia Association and the Princesa de Girona Social Award granted by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain. Moreover, in 2017 Forbes magazine included her in the 30 Under 30 list.
She has a degree in linguistics, a master’s degree in natural language processing and a PhD in ICT. -

She began her career as a documentalist in 2006, writing and directing Voces contra la trata de mujeres, where she denounced the sale of women and girls for sexual purposes. A journalist committed to the equal rights between men and women, Eizaguirre has focused on gender equality, technological development and innovation. Thus, in 2013 she participated in the presentation of the II Action Plan for the Equality between Women and Men in the Society of Information developed by the Spanish Government’s Institute of Women, which highlighted the opportunities and risks for women in ICT. She has worked on radio and television. Shirin Ebadi
Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
The first Muslim women to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Shirin Ebadi is a lawyer and human rights and democracy activist. Born in the north of Iran and daughter of a law professor, ever since her childhood she has had a strong sense of justice.
With a law degree from the University of Tehran, she was named as a judge in 1969, being the first woman in Iran to hold this position. She has had an intense professional career and has worked on many cases of human rights violations, especially regarding women and children.
In addition to receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003, in 1996 she was awarded with the Human Rights Watch and in 2001 she received the Norwegian Thorolf Rafto Prize for her defence in court of Iranian women in divorce and child custody cases. -
Of Palestinian origin, Abdellah is one of few women dedicated professionally to the darbuka, an Arab instrument traditionally played by men. Self-taught, she began her musical career at the early age of 15. Right now she is working on the challenge she set herself of recording a rock, house and pop fusion album with musical rhythms from the Middle East. She has been questioned throughout her career because of the instrument she has chosen to play. She has never given up however: “You have to follow your dreams and stay positive – even if the going sometimes gets tough.”

Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría

A Public Prosecutor, in 2011, in the 10th Parliamentary term , she was named as Deputy Prime Minister of Spain, Minister of the Presidency and Spokesperson. From 2016 until 2018, when she stood down, she became responsible for Territorial Administrations and stopped being spokesperson.
As a member of parliament for Madrid, in the 8th Parliamentary term she was also made assistant spokesperson of the Constitutional Committee of the Congress of Deputies. In the 9th Parliamentary term she was once again elected as a member of parliament for Madrid, and designated Popular Party spokesperson, assuming, among other tasks, the presentation of the Constitutional Reform in 2011.
She has a law degree from the Universidad de Valladolid, and was awarded the Extraordinary End of Studies Prize. She has been a lecturer in Administrative Law and Community Policies at the Universidad Carlos III in Madrid. At present she is a lawyer and adviser for the Spanish Council of State. -
She is only 10 years old and wants to be an example for lots of girls that want to learn technology. She has a YouTube channel with dozens of videos and tutorials on robotics, programming and entrepreneurship; she holds talks and presentations at technological events and schools; and she was involved in the development of an application so that girls in rural areas find resources to be able to learn how to program. Valeria Corrales believes: “we girls can be whatever we want to be. If I want to be a princess, I’ll be a princess and if I want to be an engineer, I’ll be an engineer”.

She is the manager of Aviadores, the first and only movement in Spain of female pilots and the promoter and member of the first international IFALPA group of female pilots. She is also a representative of ECA (the European Cockpit Association) in the Women for transport project, which is the first world European movement to foster women in transport, and is part of the governing body of the EVA association, which seeks to boost women in high offices within the aerospace career.
She holds a degree in Commercial Aviation and Aircraft Operations, and her end-of-degree project was about women, aviation, stereotypes and network creation. -
With a PhD in Law from the University of Valladolid and as a practicing lawyer since 1981, Ortega served asPresident of the Cantabria Bar Association from 2000 to 2008, the first woman to hold this position in the Association’s 164 years of existence. She is president of the Professional Union, Vice President of the European Council of the Liberal Professions and Vice President of the World Organization of the Liberal Professions. She is also adviser to the Council of State, member of the General Codification Commission and has been aProfessor of Procedural Law at the University of Cantabria since 1992.
